The democratization of audio visual technologies through the broad adoption of residential services has resulted in many an oversimplification in the industry. Everyone has a LCD TV hooked up to some source device with HDMI right? How hard can doing the same for a classroom be? Plus we need it fast and cheap! The result in 2016 with most higher education audio visual services falling under an IT department? Sound reinforcement is minimized. Microphone selection and placement for video conferences is overlooked. Furniture is ignored. Lighting is perhaps (and ironically) invisible.
